Celebrating Basketball Success Boosts Local Businesses
As the men's and women's basketball teams take center stage on Saturday night, UConn students and fans flood campus and local establishments, igniting a surge in business activity despite the Easter holiday.
The fervent support for the Huskies as they march towards championship glory creates a vibrant atmosphere at places like Ted's Restaurant and Bar in Storrs, where students gather to cheer and enjoy their favorite beverages.
Campus Community Unites for Basketball Excitement
For UConn students, these games are more than sports events; they're opportunities to bond with peers and reconnect with the university's spirit. Even amidst Easter celebrations, the enthusiasm for the teams remains unwavering.
"We have a family here as well as our families at home for Easter. It’s reconnecting with a family that I kind of lost touch within the last year," shares Sydney Brewer, a UConn graduate.
Local Businesses Thrive Amidst Tournament Action
Businesses like Dog Lane Café experience increased foot traffic and demand during game days, necessitating extra staff and preparations to cater to the bustling crowds.
"On game days, it’s very busy. We have extra staff on, extra cook, extra person for the line, and it’s because we have a lot more food," says Max Bean, a manager at the café.
Continued Support Fuels Community Spirit
Despite challenges and changes in holiday schedules, the sense of camaraderie among Husky fans remains strong, fostering a sense of unity and celebration within the UConn community.
"If we can’t go home, we might as well be together and celebrate here anyways," affirms Michelle Cost, a UConn senior.
