Just months after publicly disclosing her use of a weight loss medication, Oprah Winfrey returned to television to shed light on the topic in "An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution."

Winfrey, 70, shared her experiences of navigating weight fluctuations under the public eye for decades.

"I have to say that I took on the shame that the world gave to me," Winfrey expressed in the special, which aired on ABC. "For 25 years, making fun of my weight was national sport."

She recalled being "ridiculed" on tabloid covers and late-night talk shows, including one headline that described her as "bumpy, lumpy and downright dumpy."

At the peak of her talk show fame, Winfrey remembered "starving" herself on a liquid-only diet for months, followed by showcasing a wagon of 67 pounds of fat on her show after significant weight loss. However, she noted that she started regaining the weight soon after.

In the special, Winfrey called for an end to stigma, shame, and judgment surrounding weight, urging viewers to stop shaming themselves and others for their weight management choices.

As part of the conversation, Winfrey engaged with leading medical experts to discuss the latest breakthroughs in obesity medicine, including medications for weight loss that have gained popularity recently.

Winfrey confirmed in December that she uses a medication to help maintain her weight after a steady weight loss period through diet and exercise. She emphasized the importance of having medically approved options for weight management.

"I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing," Winfrey shared with People. "The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier in my lifetime feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for."

She concluded, "I'm absolutely done with the shaming from other people, and particularly myself."
